Sportscard Guaranty has hired long-time autograph expert Phillip Marks for its SGC Authentic division. Marks has been involved in the autograph business for over four decades and will be authenticating for the Florida-based company. He will be traveling with SGC to several major upcoming shows including Chantilly, VA, Hofstra, NY, Strongsville, OH, and Boston, MA.
“It’s very rare that an authentication company has the opportunity to add someone with Phil’s unique set of skills to its team. His combination of hobby experience, impeccable character, and breadth of knowledge is virtually unheard of,” said SGC owner Dave Forman.
Growing up in the Philadelphia area during the 1970s, Marks frequented Flyers, Phillies, and Sixers games, where he would wait for players before and after games to obtain their autographs. That passion grew into a full-time business and lifelong study of signatures. For more than 20 years, Marks has been a full-time autograph dealer and a consultant for several major auction houses.
Marks’ expertise is not limited to just autographs. He has bought and sold many vintage sports cards, most notably hundreds of pre-War tobacco cards. In addition to the autograph industry, he is also considered an expert in the fields of stamps, coins, paper Americana, and antiques. His personal autograph collection includes those of famous cyclists, Villanova University basketball and football players, and Philadelphia area sports heroes.
