Players from one of the most memorable college basketball eras of all-time will gather again in Houston next month, signing autographs at TriStar Productions’ February sports card and memorabilia show. The Phi Slama Jama Reunion will take place the weekend of February 11 and 12 include Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler and several other members of the 1982-84 University of Houston Cougar teams that reached the Final Four each season.
Phi Slama Jama was the nickname afforded the group of players recruited by coach Guy Lewis. Their running, dunking style was reminiscent of the ABA and captured the attention of fans across the country. Olajuwon and Drexler went on to Hall of Fame NBA careers.
Drexler’s autographs will start at $79; Olajuwon’s at $129. Cadillac Anderson, Michael Young, Larry Micheaux, Alvin Franklin, Reid Gettys, Lynden Rose, Eric Davis, Rickie Winslow, Renaldo Thomas and Eric Dickens are also slated to attend, with most signing for $29-$39 each. A ‘Super Ticket’ for all of the players is also being sold. Most players will appear on Saturday with a few more on Sunday. It’s the first time all have appeared at a card show together.
The show takes place at the NRG Arena and opens Friday, February 10.
Also slated to appear, should he be elected to the Hall of Fame this month, is former Astros star Jeff Bagwell. Joe Montana headlines the list of about 30 other superstars who will sign. Astros’ prospect Alex Bregman, who made his big league debut last year, is also on the schedule.
The show includes a large number of booths with vendors offering vintage and current era sports cards and memorabilia.
Tickets for the show are $9 per day with a three-day pass priced at $25.
