Lots of lines. That is one characteristic of the design in Panini America’s 2020 XR football, which has a scheduled release date of Oct. 16.
Another trait in this set is what Panini calls a seemingly contradictory “sleek, dull holographic” card stock. Getting “sleek” and “dull” in the same sentence seems odd, but the cards do sport an attractive design.
The XR base set will consist of 200 cards, split evenly between veterans and rookies.
A hobby box will feature two packs, with seven cards to a pack. Panini is promising two autograph cards and a memorabilia card, with one of the signature cards guaranteed to be a rookie autograph relic.
Each hobby box will also include an insert, a pair of rookies from the 2020 NFL draft class, four base cards and four parallels.
The base and rookie cards will have parallels in Red, numbered to 249, along with Blue (199), Orange (99), White (75), Teal (49), Gold (10), Green (5) and 1/1 Black and Printing Plate. The 1/1 cards will be case hits.
Autograph cards are going to provide collectors with plenty of possibilities. Rookie Swatch Autographs, for example, will have 17 different 1/1 cards, an increase of six from the 2019 set. Parallels will also be a big factor, with cards in Red (numbered to 75 or less), Blue (49 or less), Orange (25 or less), Gold (10 or less) and Green (5 or less).
Triple Swatch Autographs offer three times the excitement, with a signature and three swatches of memorabilia on each card. Parallel cards will include Red (numbered to 75 or less), Blue (49 or less), Orange (25 or less), White (10 or less), Green (5 or less) and 17 different 1/1 combinations.
Rookies will play a big part in XR Football, and Luminous Endorsements will showcase 42 of the top players from the 2020 draft. Signatures will be featured on acetate, and there will be parallels in Blue (numbered to 49 or less), Orange (25 or less), Gold (10 or less), Green (5 or less) and Black (1/1).
Young veterans are not ignored. They get their due in the pun-inspired X-Ponential Ink autographs subset, which concentrates on players with at least one season of NFL experience. Parallels will be in Blue (numbered to 25 or less), Gold (10 or less), Green (5 or less) and 1/1 Black and Printing Plate versions.
XR Football will introduce three new memorabilia insert sets: X-Ray Swatches, Summit Swatches and Vortex Materials.
X-Ray Swatches combine “unique effects” while including top rookies. Naturally, there are parallels, with Blue numbered to 40 or less, Orange (25 or less), Gold (10 or less), Green (5 or less) and Tag and Super Prime versions numbered 1/1.
Vortex Materials also has a rookie focus, with parallels in Blue (numbered to 49 or less), Orange (25 or less), Gold (10 or less), Green (5 or less), Tags (1/1) and Super Prime (1/1).
Veterans are not left out of the mix, as there are 1/1 NFL Shields cards that focuses on longtime stars.
