Collectors woke up to a new drop of last season’s basketball cards on Thursday. The Target exclusive factory set of 2020-21 Donruss Optic Basketball arrived with a limit of three sets per customer and includes some cards that won’t be found anywhere else.
The sealed set features all 200 cards from the regular set including 150 base cards and 50 Rated Rookies. There’s also a “bonus pack” that has five Target exclusive Purple Pulsar parallel (try saying that three times) Rated Rookies. That’s the big attraction with LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards among the draws.
The sets are priced at $149.99 were available only until supplies last. it’s not known if they’ll be restocked once sold out.
Buyers need to sign up for a Target Red Card (store credit card) if they don’t already have one in order to purchase, but that’s true of most Target exclusive drops. Target also has blaster boxes of the regular Optic Basketball cards at $29.99.
It’s the second 2020-21 Donruss Optic Factory retail set issued this month. A Fanatics exclusive set offers a similar bonus pack but the bonus pack there has five Green Pulsar parallel cards that aren’t necessarily rookies. Those have long since sold out but sets and singles can be found on eBay.
And…Panini also released a very limited Premium boxed set via its website last month. Limited to 249 boxes, the sets are printed on a kaleidoscope-style design. Those sets also include one random Rated Rookie Signature Premium Box Set card, all of which are numbered to 10. They, too, are long since sold out but some singles and sets can be found online.
