Now, it will be on the record.
One of the tidbits touted by Panini America regarding its new 2012 Limited Football product is that its Game Day Materials insert cards that contain jersey swatches will also carry the date of the contest in which the jersey it was cut from was worn.
When released late in the football season, Limited will again be a hobby only, high-end product.
The dating of game-worn swatches comes just months after the onviction of dealers on charges of selling fake gamers to card companies during the first decade of this century. Collectors have been asking for the card companies to be more forthcoming about the origin of the tiny swatches of material sold as ‘jersey cards’ or ‘relic cards’. Provenance in the set, however, is apparently limited to the Game Day Materials cards.
A few other highlights:
Every card in 2012 Panini Limited will be numbered to 399 or less.
Limited will include 100 base cards, 50 Legends, 50 Phenoms and 35 Material Phenom RCs. Buyers of the seven-card boxes are promised three autograph or memorabilia cards (with at least one autograph guaranteed), one Legend or Phenom and three additional inserts or parallels. The Material Phenoms will have on card autographs.
New inserts will include Hog Heaven, which features authentic pieces of footballs signed in silver. Stadium Stars cards will have pieces of game-used helmets.
Limited Cuts will have cut autographs from past greats, Tag Team will feature two of the league’s best players joined together on a two-piece memorabilia insert with Laudry Tag or ID Tag parallel versions. Inked will be an autograph-only insert with past and present stars featured.
