The number of basketball card products being released this season is dropping by five.
At the Southern Hobby Supply Expo in Nashville Monday, the company announced it would be eliminating six products from the schedule and adding another.
Gone are Prestige, Essentials, Status, Vanguard, Ascension and Totally Certified. Added to the list will be Certified (different product than Totally Certified). That means a roster of releases that will drop from 27 to 22 during the 2018-19 collecting year.
Company officials told a crowd of hobby shop owners and breakers that it hopes to put a wrap on this season’s NBA products before the start of the 2019-20 season. This year, collectors found newly released products dated last season even as the current season was getting underway.
Panini also said it would be increasing the number of baseball products in 2019. The company has a license to produce products through its MLBPA license but can’t use MLB logos or trademarks.
