Panini America has announced plans to issue the first Select brand baseball cards in 15 years. The company will utilize its MLBPA license to produce Select, which made its return to the hobby with its NBA-licensed basketball issue last season. Releasing late this year, the product won’t include team logos or trademarks because of MLB’s exclusive partnership with Topps.
Panini will also release Select products for hockey and football over the next couple of months.
Prizm technology will be utilized for a variety of cards within the product.
2013 Select Baseball will deliver two autographs, two Prizms, one Rookie Card, one Skills, one En Fuego and one Thunder Alley in each seven pack mini box. There will be two mini boxes per master box, which promises to produce four autographs, five Prizms (including one retired-player SP), two retired-player SPs, two Rookie Cards, two Skills, two En Fuego and two Thunder Alley.
Rookie Cards of Yasiel Puig, Wil Myers, Manny Machado and Shelby Miller will be included with three parallel versions, numbered to no more than 99.
A 75-card Rookie Autographs subset will feature cards numbered to 750 or 500 and include young standouts Shelby Miller, Wil Myers, Gerrit Cole and Jurickson Profar among others.
The Select Autographs insert will have three parallels: Silver Prizm, Gold Prizm and Black Prizm versions.
A 100-card Signatures autographed set features a mixture of current and retired players. Among the current stars who have signed for Panini are Joe Mauer, David Wright, Troy Tulowitzki, Stephen Strasburg and Yoenis Cespedes. Also, look for retired stars such as Ken Griffey Jr., Cal Ripken Jr., Rickey Henderson and Roger Clemens.
The 15-card Select Futures insert set focuses on 2013 Draft Class with top picks such as Kris Bryant, Jonathan Gray, Kohl Stewart, No. 1 pick Mark Appel and more.
2013 Panini Select Baseball is due out in December.
