Panini will release a new football card product set to arrive about a month before NFL training camps open, one with a borderless design and matte finish. Each box of 2018 Luminance Football will carry four packs with ten cards in each. Boxes should hold three autographs and one memorabilia card, on average.
The base set will consist of rookies and veterans with the card design centered on full-bleed photography. Base parallels include Gold, Blue (numbered to 99), Platinum Blue (numbered to 25), Red (numbered to 10), Pink (numbered to five) and Gun Metal 1/1s.
On-card autographs of 2018 rookies, entitled Draft Day Signatures, will be found one in every other box. Each will have White, Gold and Silver Ink variations.
Another subset of signed cards featuring first-year players fresh from the 2018 draft is Rookie Ink, which will be produced using Black and White photography. There will be Gold (# to 99); Blue (# to 75); Platinum Blue (# to 25), Red (# to 10), Pink (# to 5) and 1/1 Gun Metal parallels. Take away the “Rookie” part of the subset and you’ll have the standard Ink version, focused on veterans and retired players with Gold (# to 49); Platinum Blue (# to 25) and 1/1 Gun Metal versions also in the mix.
Veteran players and retired stars will make up the checklist for Spotlight Signatures with a checklist that will include second-year standouts Carson Wentz, Jared Goff and Deshaun Watson. The cards will carry a foil-type “ to shine a spotlight on the players,” according to Panini’s preliminary set information.
Autograph jerseys and Jumbo Premium jerseys will feature Gold (numbered to 49 or less), Platinum Blue (25 or less) and Gun Metal (1/1) versions.
2018 Panini Luminance Football is set to arrive June 8. Early online pricing is around $120 per box.
