If you’re wondering why some of those fancy-pants insert cards are never in any of the boxes you buy at retail shops, it might be that the store doesn’t really care.
The only point to pack searching prior to the early 1990s was to find the card you needed to complete your set. Or maybe the hot rookie card you could sell for $5 at the next card show.
Now, the stakes are higher. Three, four and sometimes five-figure cards are hiding in some of those packs. Local "collectors" have the game figured out. Know when the boxes hit the shelves. See what you can get away with and put your finds on eBay.
Some big retailers are hip to the problem. Others, according to the Diamond Girl’s blog, don’t care a lick. As long as the pack searcher is friendly and pays for his purchases.
