A lot has changed since Bob Ferri opened his sports card and show promotion business more than 30 years ago. For one thing, there’s more than one brand producing cards. Ferri has seen it all since ditching his day job and making a living in the hobby. The Scranton, Pa., area man is still selling at the local Farmer’s Market and hosting local shows and thankfully, collectors are still coming.
How people collect has changed, too. There’s a renewed focus on specific teams and players. While the modern market is confusing to some, it’s the influx of new players that keep the younger people involved.
On a long term basis though, collectors and dealers interviewed along with Ferri for this story in the local paper say vintage cards are the safest market and demand for the golden era stars remains strong.
