His mobile home once overflowed with sports cards. Jumping into the hobby with both feet more than 20 years ago, Tom Killian still has thousands of cards, but he’s slowly getting rid of them—and making some kids happy in the process.
It’s been an interesting ride for the former truck driver from Marshfield, MO, who is moving into retirement soon. Once the owner of his own company, Killian battled through a devastating lawsuit. His childhood was no picnic either.
Ten years ago, however, he found he could use the leftover cases of cards to make some kids in children’s hospitals happy. Since then, he’s donated stacks of them to kids in several states, sorting them by teams popular in their areas.
Clint Mitchell of The Mail stopped by to visit with Killian as he prepared for his last charity donation ride.
