Joe Orlando, president of Professional Sports Authenticator and PSA/DNA has been named the Chief Executive Officer of PSA parent company, Collectors Universe, Inc., the company’s Board of Directors announced Monday.
Orlando has served as the President of PSA and PSA/DNA since 2002. He assumes responsibilities from Robert Deuster, CEO since 2012, whose retirement was announced in August, upon the appointment of his successor.
“The Board of Directors, with the assistance of the firm of Korn Ferry, conducted a nationwide search for a new CEO, considering both external and internal candidates,” said A. Clinton Allen, Chairman of the Board in a news release. “It became very clear, as we went through the process, that Joe Orlando was by far the most qualified candidate for the CEO position and the Board unanimously approved his appointment, without reservation.”
Orlando joined Collectors Universe in 1999 and was appointed President of PSA in 2002 and President of PSA/DNA in 2003. In that time, the company has undergone substantial growth. Orlando also serves as Editor of the nationally distributed Sports Market Report, which provides pricing for the company’s graded cards as well as feature articles on various trading card sets and memorabilia.
“I am thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to lead Collectors Universe after nearly two decades working for the company in other capacities,” stated Orlando. “Just as it was within my role at PSA, my hope is to simply add value to an already well-oiled machine, one that is led by unparalleled brands and expertise in the collectibles field. I believe my experience in running PSA for 15 years, which is tantamount to managing a microcosm of our parent company in many respects, and a lifetime endeavor as a collector will serve me well in taking on this new challenge.”
Steve Sloan, who has been serving as marketing director of Collectors Universe, has been named Vice President of PSA. Sloan has been in that role for five years after spending several years in product development for Upper Deck.
“Effective immediately, Steve Sloan will be joining PSA in the role of Vice President,” added Orlando. “While I will still be involved in PSA and continue to oversee the business, Steve will take over the day-to-day operation. I am confident that Steve possesses the right combination of experience, polish and integrity to help lead PSA into the future.”
