Create coupon codes and promote your site or listings and you might see more green this holiday season.
Money is tight. There is competition for the disposable income–even on eBay. So what is a seller to do to improve the bottom line?
Go with the flow. And that flow is toward coupons.
The majority of online shoppers now look for coupon codes or other discounts and even if you’re not selling traditional merchandise, sports card and memorabilia dealers can still take advantage of the buyers’ mind set.
RetailMeNot, a site which boasts coupon codes for over 20,000 online stores, offers any seller the chance to create coupon codes. Buyers then type those codes into online checkout forms to get free shipping or discounts on orders. While many big time retailers participate on some level, RetailMeNot is available to virtually anyone with items to sell.
Sports card and memorabilia dealers with their own websites can create discount codes through the site that customers can utilize. A presence on RetailMeNot also exposes sellers to a new audience of potential buyers. "As long as they have their own domain, they can post coupons on the site for free and expose their store to the millions of shoppers who visit RetailMeNot.com every month," spokesman Lisa Holden recently told AuctionBytes.com.
RetailMeNot members can also plug their store in the "Lookie Here" section of the site, offering even more opportunities to let buyers know about their online presence.
Dealers who don’t have a website, but sell on eBay can sign up and participate, but because the eBay/Paypal checkout system isn’t set up for coupon codes, sellers have to leave instructions in their listings on how to get the discount. Sellers can tell winning bidders to leave a specific code in the comments section upon checkout. Those directions can be posted with the coupon on RetailMeNot.com. Don’t post a coupon and then refuse to honor it though. RetailMeNot buyers will post comments about their experience next to the code.
Other eBay sellers are utilizing online gift certificates to drive sales. Offering a $50 gift certficicate for a $40 Buy it Now price often works well. The certificate can be e-mailed to the buyer for use on an order.
