Negro Leagues icon Buck O’Neil made plenty of speaking engagements and signed autographs at card shows in the later years of his life. Yet his will shows a man who died with few material possessions.
For Buck O’Neil, it apparently was about everyone except himself. Famously regarded as kind and generous, the former Negro Leagues star is buried in a simple plot, next to his wife. His inexpensive house has been willed to his church and the priceless baseball memorabilia from his playing days has all been donated to the Negro Leagues Hall of Fame.
