He’s been involved in baseball since 1949, travelling the country to play, coach and scout. Bob Oldis could have gotten a few thousand dollars for his 1960 World Series champion uniform, but this is one piece of memorabilia the auction houses won’t be seeing.
Oldis was in the bullpen when Bill Mazeroski’s dramatic home run won the 1960 World Series for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The uniform he was wearing that day has been sitting in his closet ever since. Now, he’s making his own little piece of baseball history available to a sports museum in his hometown.
Oldis’ daughter is a fan but he says she agreed with his suggestion. “I asked her, ‘Would you rather have it?’ She said, ‘That’s the only place for it to go.’
