Jay Leno collects classic cars, not baseball cards but the Tonight Show host was having a good time with the story of Bernice Gallego’s 1869 Peck & Snyder find Tuesday night.
The owner of a collectibles and antique shop in Fresno, CA appeared on the show to tell the story of how she pulled a long-forgotten piece of baseball memorabilia out of storage, hoping to make a few bucks. As we’ve chronicled here before, the fortuitous find is worth much more than the $9.99 listing price she first entered on eBay.
The card is now part of a special auction all its own and Gallego is still enjoying her little stretch of limelight, according to this story in the Fresno Bee. Replica 189 Peck & Snyder cards are also now being sold by Memory Lane, commemorating the find.
And if you missed it, here’s a link to the Tonight Show’s streaming video (select 1/20). Gallego was the guest who followed Wanda Sykes.
