Yahoo Finance has launched of a cultural asset index onsite, offering investors insight on a different way to diversify their portfolios with cultural assets through a partnership with Pricing Culture.
The new family of indices tracks cultural assets like trading cards, comic books, video games and sports memorabilia that are available for fractional ownership.
“We are excited to announce the first cultural asset ticker for Yahoo investors,” said Joanna Lambert, President and General Manager, Consumer at Yahoo. “Diversifying a portfolio with cultural assets is continuing to drive interest with investors and it’s no surprise digital collectables are making headway across finance, sports and more. Yahoo is the first in the market to list a cultural asset index, furthering our mission to give investors the tools that they need to make wise decisions.”
The Total Collectables Index can be found here. The collectable asset page showcases lists of component assets and where they can be bought and sold on alternative asset platforms including Otis, Rally Rd. and Collectable.
The miscut 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson card that includes a little sliver of its neighbor on the production sheet—Mickey Mantle—turned out to be a nice flip for the owner.
Last year, the card sold at auction for $29,520 to a long-time collector who had been following the hobby since elementary school. He looked at the card as an investment and, in the fast-paced current market, decided less than a year later to sell it through ComicConnect. It realized $72,500 earlier this month.
“A miscut is usually the kiss of death when it comes to a card’s value,” said Vincent Zurzolo, COO of New York-based ComicConnect. “But having two Hall-of-Famers on one card puts it in a league of its own. We are so happy for the buyer and seller of the card. It’s a win-win.”
ComicConnect.com is well-known among comic book collectors and investors, but is now offering consignments of cards and other collectibles.
