Topps and the SPAC that it’s planning to merge with later this month, are getting closer to finalizing the deal.
Mudrick Capital Acquisition Corp., announced Wednesday that it has filed a definitive proxy statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in connection with the proposed business combination between MUDS and Topps.
MUDS has scheduled a special meeting of its stockholders to vote on the proposed transaction with Topps on August 25.
Assuming the deal is approved, the combined company will be named Topps Companies, Inc. and will be listed on NASDAQ under the new ticker symbol “TOPP.”
A big score from National week for one lucky collector.
Card Ladder reports that the 2020 National Treasures Justin Herbert RPA Platinum NFL Shield 1/1 was pulled in a break near the start of the National Sports Collectors Convention last week and sold privately on Monday for $550,000.
Card grading was scaled back from previous years, of course, but PSA says it still authenticated over 10,000 collectibles during the National Sports Collectors Convention last week.
The company continues to work through the multi-million card backlog at its Southern California headquarters. PSA is grading about 600,000 cards per month now but remains shut down for all but its highest level services.
It’s been nearly four years but Dodgers fans still haven’t forgotten the fact that they lost the 2017 World Series in seven games to a Houston Astros team that was late found to have used some unscrupulous tactics at times that season and the next.
Among the scenes from their series at Dodger Stadium this week… “specially marked” baseball cards featuring members of that team in strategic locations inside the men’s room…

The 38-year-old native of Finland made 19,718 stops during his career, winning the Vezina Trophy in 2018 as the NHL’s best goalie. He helped lead Nashville to its only Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2017 and was a three-time All-Star.
The auction runs through August 18.
The Baseball Hall of Fame’s ridiculously large collection of photographs could keep you busy for a lifetime, but there’s a new book with some of the best on the market.
Digging through the collection to help solve some mysteries and pinpoint unrecorded dates sounds like a blast. MLB.com spoke with curator Tom Shieber about the collection and some of the work that went into a few of the images from long, long ago.
