Topps is holding its own “Industry Conference” next month in Arizona. Few details have been released, but it’ll be held February 18-20 at Crooked Stick Resort in Scottsdale.
Designed for hobby shops and other collecting-related businesses, the conference includes guest speakers, breakout panels, receptions and other events “to share ideas and help businesses grow.”
The cost for the conference is $199. Transportation, hotels and meals are not included. Hotel rooms at the resort are $219.
Some very personal Ted Williams memorabilia is on the auction block.
A group of 38 letters from the Hall of Famer to his mistress in the 1950s have been consigned to Saco River Auctions. The hand-written letters date to Wiliams’ time as a fighter pilot. In one, he describes crash landing his jet after it had taken on enemy fire. He also discusses his regret over not spending more time with his father before Samuel Williams died.
You can read more about the letters written by Williams, who carried on a long affair with Evelyn Turner, in the Portland Press-Herald.
Here’s a nice feature story on Rock’s Dugout, a Kansas hobby shop that’s been under the ownership of New York native Joe Ruocco for 40 years.
Resolution Photo Matching, which provides collectors, dealers and auction houses with archival evidence of memorabilia being used in a specific game, was recently featured in this story in the Kirkland Reporter.
