One of fewer than two dozen T206 Ty Cobb cards with the Ty Cobb Tobacco ad on back sold for $86,143 as Love of the Game Auctions wrapped up its Spring catalog sale early Sunday morning. Discovered within the last couple of years, the card drew 13 bids.
The breakup of a 1914 Cracker Jack set was highlighted by sales of a Joe Jackson (PSA 3.5, $66,790) and Christy Mathewson (PSA 1, $24,600) while a Ty Cobb from a separate collection graded 3.5 by SGC netted $18,450. The Mathewson is of just two players who were included in both the 1914 and 1915 issues where the player’s pose was changed in ’15.

Some Easter eye candy from Heritage Auctions, which teased a pretty remarkable stash of over 500 never graded 1955 Topps high numbers including 20 Roberto Clemente rookie cards, a Sandy Koufax rookie and 20 Willie Mays.

They say the best will be graded and the cards will make their way into auctions that take place later this year.
Mile High Card Company is pledging to donate one percent of the buyer’s premiums in its upcoming Spring Auction to COVID-19 causes and will donate up to another one percent in the name of consignors who also donate a portion of their proceeds.
The auction is scheduled to open April 27 and run through May 14.

The puck from the goal that moved Alex Ovechkin to 15th on the NHL Career Goals Scored list last year is in the new MeiGray auction. The goal, Ovechkin’s 626th, helped the Washington Capitals defeat the New Jersey Devils, 6-3, on November 30, 2018 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
It’s part of a larger auction of goal pucks underway through April 29.
