Some rare boxing cards dating back more than 100 years are now up for auction.
The group of 37 T219 ‘Champion Pugilists’ cards with Red Cross Tobacco backs is one of the largest collections ever to reach the auction market at one time. T219 boxing cards are most commonly found with Honest Long Cut backs. Some were also distributed through Miner’s Tobacco but the cards that came in Red Cross backs are much harder to find.
Long-time dealer David Levin acquired them in 2021, initially selling the duplicates. The others were eventually graded by SGC and are now being offered. Among them: James Jeffries, Sam Langford, Abe Attell and Joe Jeannette.
Of the 193 total Red Cross boxing cards on SGC’s population report, only one has ever been graded higher than 4.
The 37 cards are being offered individually on eBay.
