Goldin Auctions closed out its three day “Elite” auction with the sale of a 2017 Patrick Mahomes Prizm Gold Vinyl rookie card for $570,000. Numbered 4/5, the card was graded PSA 10. That came a day after the 2020 National Treasures Joe Burrow NFL Shield 1/1 sold for $534,000.
The auction’s first session closed Saturday night with three lots netting seven figure prices.
In all, the three-day event totaled $45 million, making it the second largest auction in the company’s history.
PSA’s backlog currently stands at just over six million cards. At its zenith last year, the total number of cards waiting to be graded stood between 12.5 and 13 million cards, according to company president Steve Sloan. PSA graders are currently working through about 200,000 cards per week after the firm increased its staff, space and efficiency last year.
Some submissions that arrived at the company’s facility almost a year ago are still being processed. They hope to have the backlog cleared by late summer or early fall.
PSA still plans to bring back at least one lower cost service level to the general public at some point this year.
