Notes: Plenty of Fake MJ Rookies; Summer Show in Marlborough; Charity Wax Sale Update; New Ty Cobb Museum Card

An interesting tidbit from PSA’s Nat Turner who says the company’s grading department tells him they’ve taken in 2,051 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan cards this year. 

Of those, 447 were deemed counterfeit.  That’s about 21% of the total. 

According to Ryan Stuczynski of Gem Rate, 62 ’86 Jordan cards have been graded 9 by PSA this year with only three 10s added to the population report.  There are now a total of 322 PSA 10 Jordan rookies.

Northeast Sports Card Expo is planning a large show for next summer. It’ll be held at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel & Trade Center in Marlborough, MA on Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23, 2024. 

They say they’ll be selling 400 vendor booths that will spread out over 50,000-square-feet of space.

There’s another 400-table show at Hofrstra University in New York this Saturday and Sunday. The annual Holiday Show will be at the David S. Mack Sports & Exhibit Complex.  

Ted Simmons, Bill Madlock Bobby Valentine and Mike Richter are among the autograph signers.

The annual charity sale on a popular Facebook group for collectors and fans of vintage unopened material is set to take place Sunday.  The Vintage Wax and Packs group hosts the sale, which includes items donated by members, all are valued at $100 or more.

 

A 1983 Topps Michigan Test pack box and other 1980s wax boxes, older packs and unopened factory sets are among the items.

 

 

Dozens of items will be offered on the page for the one-day event.

 

All proceeds go the the John Theissen Children Foundation. Last year’s event raised over $10,000.

The Ty Cobb Museum’s 2023 baseball card is now out and available for purchase on the museum’s store page.

 

The card depicts a 1941 trophy presented to Cobb for a match play golf event against Babe Ruth. 

 

 

It’s the latest card in the Ty Cobb Treasures series which highlights some of the more valuable items on display at the museum in Royston, Georgia. 

 

 

The museum has been issuing baseball cards for the last several years with sales used to help defray costs at the facility, located in Cobb’s hometown.
