Mac Jones was the player most often seen by SGC graders in the month of January. The company graded around 2,400 Jones rookie cards in the month that ended Monday. That’s according to Gem Rate, which tracks grading totals based on company population reports.
Jones’ 2021 Donruss card was the most graded single card in the month with around 2,400 being examined. Michael Jordan was close behind, followed by Tom Brady, LaMelo Ball and Kobe Bryant.
2021 Donruss Football, 2020-21 Optic, Prizm and Select Basketball and 2020 Select Football were the five most graded sets at SGC in the first month of 2022. However, the company graded more baseball cards than any other sport at around 25,000.
SGC, which built its reputation as a grader of vintage cards, especially those dating from the 1940s and earlier, found that 42 percent of the cards it graded last month were made in 2020 or 2021. About 28 percent of PSA’s graded cards were from the last two years while 18 percent of Beckett graded cards were of the ultra-modern variety.
In all, SGC graded over 81,000 cards in January.
PSA’s top graded players were Ja Morant (approx. 13,500), Zion Williamson (13,000), LeBron James (11,500), Michael Jordan (10,100) and Luis Robert (10,000).
The most graded cards were mostly from 2020 Topps Baseball, led by Robert (1,900), Bo Bichette and Kyle Lewis.
2019-20 Prizm Basketball (26,500), 2020 Mosaic Football (23,500), 2019-20 Mosaic Basketball (22,900) and 2019-20 Chronicles Basketball (21,400) were the most graded sets at PSA, according to Gem Rate. In all, PSA graded about 775,000 cards last month.
