A 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan sticker graded PSA 10 sold for $138,000 late Sunday night as Robert Edward Auctions wrapped up its monthly Encore auction. The online only catalog included over 2,200 items.
The highest graded 1958 Topps Jim Brown rookie card on SGC’s pop report—an 8.5—sold for $108,000 while a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle graded PSA 3.5 netted $78,000. A 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #53 graded SGC 6 went for $69,000 while a #149 Ruth rated PSA 4 reached $57,600.
The auction grossed nearly $2 million. Each of the first two REA Encore sales has grossed more than $1.9 million. Nearly 50,000 bids were made.
“Response to the Encore auctions has been tremendous, from buyers and sellers alike,” REA President Brian Dwyer told us. “We’re finalizing our much-awaited Spring catalog auction, which will open next Friday, and we’re already building another large Encore auction right on its heels.”
Heritage Auctions says its first monthly sports auction totaled $3.3 million in sales. Bidding closed late last week in what was the first of its kind sale in the 15-year history of the company’s Sports category.
The slimmed down version of the larger catalog auction featured only material already graded and/or authenticated by a leading third-party service when consigned. It ran for two weeks, from opening to extended bidding, to better shrink the window between consignment, auction and payment. And unlike most of Heritage’s sports auctions, it was done without a physical catalog.
The top selling item was a PSA 3 Mickey Mantle that sold for five times the original estimate at $162,000.
Wanna buy the old Bowman Gum plant in Philadelphia?
The building on Stenton Avenue that once housed the bubble gum and trading card maker decades ago is on the market. Even though it hasn’t produced a trading card since 1955, it’s still referred to as the “Bowman Gum Building.”
Speaking of Bowman…this is pretty great.
I love finding cards in a format that I’ve never seen them before. Today it was a complete 1953 Bowman B/W set in its original box, as mailed to the son of Phillies pitcher Jim Konstanty in July ‘53. Jim Jr passed away a few years ago and the set was in the family until recently. pic.twitter.com/MpC6LkkmDs

Rare soccer cards are continuing to attract plenty of interest. A PSA 8 1958 Alifabolaget Pele rookie card is on eBay right now.
It’s one of the 14 best ever graded and it’s going to sell for a whopper of a price.
