Notes: Latest on Manning Case; High Powered Brady Cards; New Eagles Set Coming

The lawsuit filed by collector/dealer Eric Inselberg against the New York Giants over the sale of team memorabilia is still on target to begin next month.

On Monday, the New York Post published a fresh story about the suit that includes accusations by Inselberg’s attorney that the Giants’ lawyer failed to investigate claims that quarterback Eli Manning and team equipment personnel were producing gear that was supposed to be game-used but wasn’t.

Owner John Mara recently gave a deposition in the case.  Read more in the New York Post.

One of 14 PSA 10 Tom Brady “Rookie Ticket” autographed rookie cards from 2000 Playoff Contenders has been listed on eBay where it’s already pushing six figures. The card was valued at $5,000 just six years ago and one sold for $30,000 in 2016.

“It’s astonishing to see such a recent card appreciating so dramatically in less than a half decade,” observed Brent Huigens, CEO of PWCC which is selling the card on consignment. “The marketplace is changing as collectors realize cards of all types and eras can offer sizeable returns in line with the Honus Wagers and Mickey Mantles of the vintage world.”

A “Championship Ticket” Brady auto sold for over $60,000 Monday night. Rated BGS 8.5, it’s one of 100 issued.  A BGS 9 example sold for $250,000 on February 1, becoming the second most valuable modern era card ever sold at public auction. There are no PSA 10s and just one PSA 9 of the Championship version.

Panini is producing a 36-card boxed set honoring the Super Bowl LII champion Philadelphia Eagles. The set is different from the one offered through Panini Instant last week.

Few details have been released so far, but look for individual cards of most of the players who saw meaningful action for the Eagles in the playoffs (and Carson Wentz).  Some game highlight cards are also likely going to be included.

The set is due to be released on March 9 and will be priced at $29.99.

Cases will consist of 20 sets.
