Phillies pitcher Matt Strahm brought baseball cards to the All-Star Game–in more ways than one.
There were plans for box breaks and a belt made of his own cards.

The belt was made by Card Belts, a company we wrote about earlier this year.
He also planned to put four of his 2024 Topps cards in the pocket of his uniform pants during the game in a move similar to what Corbin Carroll and Bobby Witt have done. The signed cards will go on display at the National Sports Collectors Convention next week.
Strahm pitched one-third of an inning, fanning Witt on five pitches.

A 2009 New York Yankees World Series ring presented to Reggie Jackson, who was an executive assistant at the time sold for $164,700 at Goldin Saturday night. The price is the most ever paid for an executive’s World Series ring.
A Barry Bonds game-worn Giants jersey from Games 3,4 and 5 of the 2002 World Series netted $158,600–the most ever paid for a Bonds jersey– while a bat Bonds used for his 60th homer in 2001 netted $86,620.
The Bonds and Jackson items were consigned by the former athletes as part of Goldin’s ‘King of Collectibles’ auction that was tied in with the Netflix show.
A 1953 Jackie Robinson bat owned by Jackson did not meet its reserve price.

Game-worn jersey collectors turned out for the 19th annual MeiGray Game-Worn Expo last Saturday.
The event brought about 250 collectors to Branchburg, NJ for a day of buying, selling, trading and a visit from former NHL player John LeClair, who spoke with attendees and held a Q&A session.
It’s a hockey-oriented show and this year, the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto brought a display of some of the best jerseys worn by American-born players.
Among the more popular events at the annual gathering is a grab bag draft in with 40 entry slots are offered with collectors able to pick from a rack of 45 game-worn jerseys of different assessed values.
The show is held each summer at the Raritan Valley Community College Convention Center.
