Action on the ripped T206 Honus Wagner card that went on the block last Wednesday has pushed the current high bid close to $300,000.
SCP Auctions is selling the unusual specimen in its current auction. So far, 15 bids have been made for the card, which is missing a large chunk of its right side.
The auction still has more than a week and a half to run.
Some big ticket sales for football rookie cards—and those featuring a particular female athlete—were recorded Sunday night.
Despite a last second loss to the Rams, a 2000 Tom Brady Playoff Contenders Championship Ticket Rookie Autograph card (#29/100) graded BGS 8/10 sold for $1.29 million including the buyer’s premium via a PWCC Marketplace auction. That’s a record price for the grade and the first million dollar card auction of 2022.
Several other cards reached six figures including a pair of playoff stars., starting with a 2017 National Treasures Patrick Mahomes Holo Gold Rookie Auto (#2/10) that netted $576,000.
While he suffered heartbreaking overtime loss, someone really believes in Josh Allen. A 2018 Prizm Gold Vinyl rookie sold for $264,000. The exact same card had sold in July 2020 for $5,868.
Meanwhile, a 1999 Sports Illustrated For Kids Series 4 Serena Williams rookie card sold for $117,000. The sale more than doubles the previous record for a women’s sports card of $44,280.
In fact, the record was broken twice. A 2003 Netpro Elite Glossy Williams card graded PSA 10 sold for $96,000. The card is one of the 100 variations of Serena’s #2 rookie card in the set, and one of 26 to be encapsulated within a coveted PSA 10 holder.
There was at least one person in Northern Wisconsin who was happy about the 49ers upsetting the Packers on Saturday night.
In fact, avid collector Darin Gilbertson was ecstatic because the Niners have been his team for a long time.
He’s a rare breed in that neck of the woods in that he doesn’t bleed green and gold.
Gilbertson has a whole room full of Niners memorabilia at his home in the small town of Amery, WI. Before last weekend’s game, he talked with WISN-TV about it—and how he became a fan of a team that’s 2,000 miles away.
