eBay has an agreement in place to acquire a large online trading card marketplace.
The $295 million deal with TCGplayer was announced Monday.
TCGplayer offers shops and private sellers tools to reach buyers through its online platform. While they’ve been devoted strictly to gaming cards like Pokemon and Yu-gi-Oh, they announced last March they’d be venturing into the sports card space this summer.
“We remain committed to expanding into sports cards, and will provide an update on our launch plans as we work through our broader vertical expansion and integration planning efforts,” a TCGplayer spokesperson told SC Daily Monday evening.
Despite eBay purchasing the company, TCGplayer will continue to operate autonomously.
According to a news release, eBay says the acquisition “complements eBay’s focus category strategy and furthers the company’s commitment to trading card enthusiasts – providing eBay with strategic omnichannel capabilities like order fulfillment and cart optimization, maintaining its position as a desirable platform for trading card sellers, and enhancing the overall experience for all customers.”

JRI Cards is teaming up with former MLB umpire John Hirschbeck for a special box break that will raise money for charity Tuesday night.
It’s all to raise money for the Magic of Michael Foundation, started by the Hirschbeck family to honor the memory of their two sons, who both died from a rare neurological disease.
JRI will be opening a 1994 SP Baseball box and for every Alex Rodriguez rookie card pulled, JRI will donate $500 to the charity, plus a portion of the net proceeds of the charity box.

MeiGray has launched its “Select Collection,” a spinoff of the virtual museum it launched nine years ago. In this museum, though, the stuff is all for sale.
The items are comprised of both consignments and acquisitions that include items used by NHL greats including Brett Hull, Steve Yzerman, Mark Messier, Jaromir Jagr, Martin Brodeur, Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid, among many others. Some date to milestone moments or important games.

All of the items have been authenticated through MeiGray Vintage and the NHL-MGG Authentication programs.
