Notes: Big $ for Gretzky Jersey; Bleier Explains Decision to Sell; Bruins/MeiGray Winter Classic Auction

A Wayne Gretzky game jersey photo matched to the 1986-87 regular season and Stanley Cup Finals sold for $201,009 via Classic Auctions last night.

A 1980 Team USA jersey donned by “Miracle on Ice” team member Mark Wells netted $58,888. Photos match it to wear during the Gold Medal game against Finland.

One of the hobby’s toughest pre-War hockey cards, a 1923-24 William Paterson V145-1 #25 Bert Corbeau short printed rookie card graded SGC 3 went for $21,171.

In all, the auction netted nearly $1.4 million.

No, he’s not selling any of his four Super Bowl rings, but Steelers great Rocky Bleier is unloading some prime pieces of memorabilia from his life and career. 

The items help tell the story of his extraordinary life, from the football field, battlefield of Vietnam and back.  Bleier, who was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his military service, defied the odds and became a four-time Super Bowl winner with the Steelers.

He talked with TribLive about why he’s selling his career memorabilia in new Lelands auction.  Part of the proceeds are going to a cause close to his heart.

MeiGray Auctions is selling the gloves, pants and socks worn by the Boston Bruins in last season’s Winter Classic game against the Chicago Blackhawks at Notre Dame Stadium.

Among the 63 lots are the pants worn by goalie Tuukka Rask, who set the Bruins’ all-time record for games played on that afternoon with his 469th, breaking the decades-old record set by Tiny Thompson.

Gloves worn by David Pastrnak are up for grabs in the auction, which runs through December 3 at MeiGrayAuctions.com.
