It’s not a new find, but it’s a big one that’s just now getting a little bit of attention.
Virginia resident Tim Banazek latched onto a massive private collection of sports cards that a family was selling.
The original owner kept his stash hidden away and Banazek latched onto it in 2021. It took five U-Haul trucks and 20 car trips to move it all to the location where it’s now stored.
There were old cards, newer cards, vintage singles and sets and everything in between. He’s still going through them. There were about 20 million cards in all, according to this story.

A 1952 Topps pack graded PSA 7 sold for $91,040 in the latest BBCE auction. The nickel pack is likely a first series pack and won’t have cards from the rare final series that included Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson and Eddie Mathews but is nonetheless, rare.
A 1957-58 Topps basketball pack netted $68,969. A Bill Russell rookie card could lie inside, but unopened packs are rarer with just nine on PSA’s population report.
Other sales included a 1971 Topps Series 1 football cello box ($62,699) and a 1970 Topps baseball box, likely with cards from the 5th, 6th and 7th series that garnered $60,693.
