The elements of a rare 1950s food issue set are coming together, thanks to Chuck Whisman of Wheatland Auctions. How rare are the cards from the Mascot Dog Food set? None of the 11 known cards on the checklist have more than three known copies today.
You might remember our 2018 story from when Wheatland sold newly uncovered copies of the Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra cards for over $28,000.
Since then, a set containing 11 of the 12 cards have come to light. It was still in the original envelope that they came in along with the 8”x10” photo of Robin Roberts and the membership badge and pin that were part of the promotion. Dealer/collector Chuck Wisman says he’s confirmed another complete set of 11 cards exists.
You can learn more about this 1952-54 issue in Whisman’s blog post.
