The PSA 8 T206 Honus Wagner card is not bound for Las Vegas, according to SCP Auctions’ president David Kohler.
SCP sold the hobby’s most famous card, the PSA 8 T206 Honus Wagner, twice last year, the last time for $2.8 million. Robin Leach, who writes a blog covering the Vegas entertainment and celebrity industry, indicated last week the Luxor Hotel was planning to create a sports museum and include the Wagner card as a centerpiece. Not true, according to Kohler who tells us the still anonymous owner has no plans to display the card there. Kohler did say it’s possible the owner will reveal himself at some point.
Upper Deck is shipping its “Signs of History” Presidential autograph cut signature exchange cards this week.
UD obtained a cut autograph from every U.S. President for the program and inserted them into special cards in varying amounts in 2008 baseball products.
Shop owner Gary Mills of Milwaukee, WI, will be receiving one of the biggies in the set: the quad autograph cut Mt. Rushmore card which features autographs of the four Presidents carved into the famous landmark in South Dakota. The cards are sent out randomly through Upper Deck’s online software so it would be chosen from the 2008 Upper Deck Premier Baseball release, as was announced earlier.
“I was shocked to hear we would be receiving this card. This is just awesome,” said Mills. “I actually logged it in for one of my best customers so I know he’s going to be thrilled. He’s a big racing and baseball fan who loves going after the high-end chase. I don’t think he’s ever pulled anything like this however and I’m sure he’s going to be blown away.”
“Signs of History” cards will be found in MLB Upper Deck Piece of History, MLB Upper Deck Goudey, MLB UD Heroes, MLB UDX and MLB Upper Deck Ballpark Collection.
