Want to use Tom Brady to pay for your stuff?
Now you can enlist the services of Brady—or dozens of other NFL players—when you check out at the store or pay for your next meal. No, they’re not handing out free money, but you can use a prepaid card with one of more than 200 NFL player images on it as part of a new product that aims to have both consumer and collector appeal.
CARD.com has partnered with the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), via its licensing and marketing arm NFL Players Inc., to feature images of top NFL players on Visa prepaid cards. The set includes Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Rob Gronkowski, J.J.Watt, Kareem Hunt, Todd Gurley, Adam Thielen and dozens of other players as of now and CARD.com will be rolling out hundreds more as the season progresses, including standout rookies. While the cards are an NFLPA product, they don’t carry NFL team licenses so the cards have been created without club logos. Some are player caricatures.
“It’s great to see NFL player licensing extend into diverse new categories,” said Steve Scebelo, vice president of business development and licensing for the NFLPA. “We are always looking for new ways to build licensing opportunities for NFL players through alliances with partners such as CARD.com, who are leaders in their category.”
“Consumers want a more personalized payment experience and CARD.com provides an opportunity to express yourself through a wide variety of card art designs,” says CEO, Tim Coltrell. “People are looking for a new way to bank on the go, and our goal is to provide an easy-to-use, affordable banking solution that reflects the individual passions of consumers. The NFLPA cards are a great example of giving consumers a more engaging and fun banking option.”
In May 2018, CARD.com was a partner of the NFLPA Rookie Premiere and players were photographed with the cards. Visa cards are already in development for this season’s first-year players.
The prepaid cards can be used everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted and offer what CARD.com says is “a fully featured online banking experience without any overdraft charges or late fees.”
