After a quiet period during and after the holidays, sports card manufacturers will get back in gear this month with several new releases on the calendar.
Here’s a look at what’s ahead courtesy of The Break Exchange.
2018-19 Upper Deck Trilogy Hockey (1/9)
There will be three hits in each box of Trilogy including at least one rookie autograph or other higher-end card. Five of the 32 cards in each box will be serial numbered.
Signature Pucks are back and Upper Deck is also bringing out the plexiglass with Ice Scripts and Personal Scripts autograph cards.
Rookie cards come in three different tiers of scarcity which you can read about here.
Trilogy boxes are online now for around $115.
2018-19 Panini Dominion NBA (1/11)
Dominion returns with the promise of four hits in every six pack box, including three autographs. It’s not cheap at around $280 per box, but it does have the first Rookie Jersey Autographs of the season.
Franchise Favorites and NBA Champions are both dual signature cards pairing two top players on each card (think Steph Curry and Kevin Durant or Magic Johnson and Kareem).
Main Exhibit Rookie Autographs features the strong 2018 NBA Draft Class with floating autographs on acetate over a shadowbox background.
Dominion is running about $225 per box online.
2018 Panini Contenders NFL Hobby Boxes (1/11)
Retail came first but one of the most popular NFL releases in Panini’s stable becomes a much bigger deal when the hobby configuration arrives. 2018 Contenders boxes will carry 18 six-card packs. Each box should have five autographs, one of which will be on-card, 18 inserts and one parallel. Boxes are online now for around $200.
The Rookie Ticket Autographs are annually among the most popular with collectors. This year’s array of ‘Ticket’ cards will have a couple of fresh designs: Rookie Ticket Stubs, created with a die cut edge at the top meant to replicate a ticket stub; and Rookie Ticket Clear, which are printed on acetate stock and carry on-card autographs.
The Break Exchange will be breaking boxes of Contenders starting Friday. You can learn more here.
2018-19 Upper Deck SP Game Used Hockey (1/23)
SP Game Used packs only hits–four per box. New this year are Day with the Cup Materials Net Cord cards with past and present winners featured. All are numbered to 35. There’s also Battle Lines Net Cord cards featuring rival matchups, also numbered to 3.
There are new Materials cards including Tools of the Game, A Piece of History, Locker Essentials and Draft Swag. Game Used will feature swatches of jerseys, patches, pucks, sticks, gloves and net cord from marquee NHL events including NHL 100 Classic, Winter Classic, Stadium Series, and the All-Star Game.
SP Game Used is online now for around $105 per box.
Crown Royale is known for its unique die-cut designs. The base set and special inserts are the major attractions with each 12-card box only containing one autograph and one memorabilia card. Online, boxes are selling for $85-$100.
Silhouettes and Rookie Silhouettes are among the big hits, with an on-card autographs and a large memorabilia swatch.
Also among the highlights are Rookie Jersey Autographs from the 2018 NBA Draft Class with prime and super prime parallels.
The Kaboom! insert is here, too, but they’ll be tough pulls.
2018 Panini Limited Football (1/23)
A long-time brand name in the hobby, Limited makes its NFL return with three pack boxes that promise two autographs and one memorabilia card at a cost of around $125 per box. At least one signed card will be a Rookie Patch Autograph.
One unique element will be Draft Day Signature Booklets, which showcase an image of the player just after his name was called at the NFL Draft along with a swatch of the jersey he held up for the cameras and an on-card autograph.
Partnership Duals and Trios autographs from some of the best tandems in the NFL.
Other products set for release in the coming days include Topps WWE Road To Wrestlemania (1/9); Leaf Ultimate Draft (1/9); Leaf Legends of Wrestling (1/9) and Topps Chrome Bundesliga Soccer (1/16).
The Break Exchange will be breaking some of these products in the coming days. The company offers daily breaks of current and past products you can participate in and watch online.
