High-end baseball, a new football product and an NBA release are on tap over the next couple of weeks.
Courtesy of The Break Exchange, here’s a quick look at some of the upcoming sports card boxes you can expect to see in hobby shops, online stores and break rooms.
2018-19 Panini Absolute Memorabilia Basketball
Absolute Memorabilia offers two three-card packs per box. In those six cards, you can expect to find two autographs, two memorabilia cards and two Uncirculated cards (one veteran and one rookie). Panini promises more on-card autographs this year with the addition of Hoopla Signatures and 10th Anniversary Autos.
Tools of the Trade rookie cards will carry three, four and six memorabilia swatches (jerseys, hats and basketballs).
Glass cards return, showcasing 25 top NBA players.
Boxes are currently online for $120-$130.
2018 Bowman Draft Baseball Originally 12/5/18 – Delayed
Topps revealed the checklist for this much-anticipated release on Wednesday (see it–and our preview– here) but also announced the release date had been delayed indefinitely. Look for it to still hit sometime within the next few weeks.
2018 Panini Obsidian Football (12/5/18)
Another new football card product? Yup…and this one falls in the higher end category. Each box of Obsidian will contain one pack of seven cards, printed on Optichrome stock with a dark color scheme.
On average, each pack will have four autograph or memorabilia cards, two base parallels and one base card. Panini says all cards will be numbered to 100 or less.
Boxes are selling for around $150.
2018 Topps Dynasty Baseball (12/7)
Delayed from a planned November release, Dynasty returns with one autographed or autographed relic card inside a protective plastic case at a price of $350-$400 as of now. Inside will be cards with patch autographs, pieces of game and event-used baseballs and cut signatures of former greats.
“On This Day” autographed patches will include memorabilia pieces from a particular day when the featured player had an outstanding performance. Each will carry an MLB Authentication hologram.
Other than the cut sigs, autographs are all on card and will be numbered to 10 or less.
2018 Panini Elite Extra Edition Baseball (12/12)
This annual prospect-laden release offers a solid bang for your buck if you’re all about autographs. There are five packs per box and five cards per pack. With no MLB license, you won’t see anyone wearing a big league or minor league uniform but you will get eight autos, two memorabilia cards and five parallels in a box for under $100.
Base cards are numbered to 999 or less.
In addition to your standard prospects, Elite carries autographs of Dominican Prospect League players and 2018 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team members.
New this year are Dual Silhouettes, which features one top prospect and two oversized memorabilia swatches.
2018 Panini Playbook Football (12/12/18)
Playbook is an all hits product– a single pack box with four autograph or memorabilia cards per pack. One of them will be a booklet card.
Three out of every four boxes will deliver an on-card Rookie Playbook Jersey Autograph, sequentially numbered to 125 or less. Look for the return of jersey booklets in Armory, Game of Inches and Red Zone, all printed on acetate. Nexus and Vault are new tri-fold booklet cards.
Boxes are running about $150 online right now.
The Break Exchange will be breaking some of these products in the coming days. The company offers daily breaks of current and past products you can participate in and watch online.
