You think colleges and universities have all of their old memorabilia safety stored in a Hall of Fame somewhere? Apparently not.
North Carolina State University retired senior associate athletic director Frank Weedon was a bit of a packrat.
And for that, the school is eternally grateful.
It’s Weedon being credited with having the foresight to save decades worth of old programs, awards and even game-worn jerseys that are just now being discovered and catalogued in a dusty old basement area.
The real treasure though, is…well…reels. As in reels and reels of old coach’s film, much of it dating back 35 years and more. An alumnus who is now a film producer is helping handle that, with assistance from students.
Some of those in the film went on to greatness at the pro level.
“It’s like an archaeological dig,” Tor Ramsey said of the whole process. After reading the story and seeing some of the photos in the Charlotte Observer, you’ve got to admit it would be fun to be there, digging right along with them.
