The 20th anniversary of a popular modern football card set is the inspiration behind one of the freebies for attendees who pay for VIP privileges at this year’s National Sports Collectors Convention.
Panini America (formerly Donruss) has announced the details of the exclusive card set to be provided to all VIPs at the 30th National in Cleveland this summer. The six-card set is a retro issue, created in the style of the company’s very popular 1989 Score product. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the product.
The 30th National Sports Collectors Convention will be held July 29-August 2, 2009 at the International Exposition (I-X) Center in Cleveland OH.
Two key rookies from the 2009 NFL Draft highlight the special set that will be part of the VIP package.
Number 1 overall pick Matthew Stafford of Georgia was selected by the Detroit Lions. Stafford had a record-shattering career at UGA, breaking the school record by tossing 25 TD passes in 2008.
The set also includes Jets’ rookie Mark Sanchez out of USC. Sanchez will look to become the NY Jets QB of the future after leading the Trojans to a 12-1 record which included a Rose Bowl victory over Penn State. Sanchez was named MVP of that game and ended his redshirt junior season with 3,207 yards passing, 34 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Four veteran players round out the issue including two-time Super Bowl Champion Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinal 3-time Pro Bowl Selection, Larry Fitzgerald, Cleveland Browns’ QB Brady Quinn and 2008 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons.
VIP memberships include bonuses such as free early entry, free autographs and other promotional items.
Tickets for the 30th National Sports Collectors Convention are available online through the National’s web site.
