Joe Montana’s collection closeout continues.
Over 300 lots from the Hall of Fame quarterback are now up for grabs at Goldin, a couple of months after the first wave of consigned items hit the block.
The first auction saw a jersey worn by Montana in two Super Bowl victories bring in $1.2 million–a record price for a football jersey. The new auction includes the jersey he wore in the San Francisco 49ers’ Jan. 9, 1993 playoff victory over Washington.
Hampered by injuries, Montana had fallen down the 49ers depth chart and watched from the sidelines as the 49ers moved on behind Steve Young. He would be traded to the Kansas City Chiefs after the season.
Montana’s game jersey from Notre Dame’s Jan. 2, 1978 Cotton Bowl win over Texas is also among the top items in the auction. He’d been third on the Irish depth chart at the start of the year, but led Notre Dame to nine straight wins and the 1977 national championship.
The sale includes several of Montana’s NFL players contracts including the one from his rookie season, executed on April 1, 1979.
Montana’s Super Bowl XVI and XIX Super Bowl MVP trophies, a signed and inscribed Super Bowl XXIV game ball, a ball signed to Montana by Mickey Mantle, signed and inscribed copies of his 1981 Topps rookie cards and various other game balls and awards are among the lots offered.
The auction runs through May 10.
