It turns out Joe Montana wasn’t quite done throwing passes at Candlestick Park. The Pro Football Hall of Famer will join some former 49ers teammates and fellow great Dan Marino for the ‘Legends of Candlestick’ game on Saturday, July 12.
On Wednesday, Montana appeared at a special fundraising autograph session to help promote the game.
For $149, fans and collectors could bring any item – posters, footballs, t-shirts, photos, jerseys, autograph books, hats, etc. – for Montana to autograph.
KTVU was there to check out the autograph session and talk with him about getting back on the gridiron where he dominated much of the 1980s.
Montana and Jerry Rice, and their 49er teammates Roger Craig, Dwight Clark, Steve Young, and many more, will face off in a flag football game against a team of NFL stars captained by NFL Hall of Famer Dan Marino on Saturday. It’s the final football event at The ‘Stick, as the Niners get set to move to Levi’s Stadium this season.
Proceeds from the autograph signing benefitted the San Francisco Firefighters and San Francisco Police Department, whose own football teams will compete against each other in a flag football contest preceding the “Legends of Candlestick” game.
