Major League Baseball will conduct a special auction to benefit an ALS charity in conjunction with the third annual Lou Gehrig Day.
Last Friday, MLB Auctions listed autographed Gehrig Day bats to benefit the Expanded Access Protocol program at the Healey & AMG Center for ALS.
The auction offers 30 autographed and authenticated bats, including players selected by Sarah Langs, an MLB researcher and analyst who was diagnosed with the degenerative disease in October of last year.

The players whose bats are being auctioned were selected “based on a personal connection to ALS, their support of the ALS Community, or a symbolic connection to Lou Gehrig by either their passion for the game, character or a unique statistical connection,” according to MLB.
The bats are not game-used but carry MLB authentication and the Lou Gehrig Day logo.
Bats that will be in the auction include those from:

In addition, all MLB players, managers, and coaches wore special “Lou Gehrig Day” patches on their uniforms. Red “4-ALS” wristbands were available to be worn in-game, in addition to commemorative base jewels and lineup cards, some of which will be sold to raise money to fight ALS, the disease that claimed Gehrig’s life two years after his 1939 diagnosis.
