If you’d like to make sure there’s something you really want under the tree later this month, Heritage Auctions is offering the chance to put it there. The company’s December Showcase Auction will put the wraps on 2022 when it closes December 17, with just over 1,000 lots on the block, ranging from Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth to current era soccer boxes.
Among the low population items are two lots focused on players that defined a generation of sports fans. One of only ten ticket stubs from the game in which Michael Jordan competed for the Chicago Bulls for the first time is expected to sell for at least $20,000. The ticket to the Bulls first preseason game of the 1984-85 season is the highest graded copy submitted to date–a PSA 8.
Jordan scored 18 points in 29 minutes in the Oct. 5, 1984 contest in Peoria, IL.
A stub from Ken Griffey Jr.’s Major League Baseball debut on April 3, 1989 that stands as one of only 11 copies in PSA’s Population Report is also among the top items.
A 1933 Goudey Ruth (#149) graded SGC 6 and a #144 rated SGC 4 lead off the vintage cards in the auction. In all, there are a dozen cards from Ruth’s playing days up for sale.
A T206 (Green) Ty Cobb portrait graded PSA 3.5 and a 1910 E90-2 Honus Wagner (SGC 1) are among the top pre-War baseball lots.
The auction includes over 40 vintage Mickey Mantle cards including a 1952 Topps SGC 4 and two 1951 Bowman rookie cards. There is also a PSA 5 1951 Bowman Willie Mays rookie.
There are multiple Jordan rookie cards and a complete, higher grade set of 1986-87 Fleer basketball.
Collectors of unopened material will see a few dozen different lots including boxes of 1976-77, 1980-81 and 1996-97 Topps Chrome Basketball, a 1985 Topps Baseball case and a case of 1989 Bowman Tiffany Baseball sets.
A 1976 Hank Aaron game bat from the collection of former big league outfielder Joe Rudi, a 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers team signed baseball with Jackie Robinson, a 1984 Sports Illustrated signed by Michael Jordan and a 2019 Washington Nationals World Series ring lead the memorabilia section of the online catalog.
