Fresh off its $2.4 million Fall Auction, Mile High Card Company has launched its ‘Extra Innings’ auction. While usually packed with items targeting the more modest collector, there’s nothing modest about the auction opener; a 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle PSA 6. As of early Friday, the high bid was over $39,000 without the 20% buyer’s premium.
The timing for the consignor couldn’t be better. Early Friday morning, a PSA 6 Mantle soared to $133,325 in another auction, more that double what PSA 6s were selling for earlier this year. Just three years ago, the going rate was $15,000-$20,000. A PSA 7 sold earlier this month for $227,050 while a PSA 8 example sold on eBay November 8 for $486,100.
More than 350 lots are featured in the Mile High auction. In addition to the 1952 Topps Mantle, a 1953 Topps Mantle is available, also graded PSA 6, while red and green background T206 Ty Cobb cards and mid-grade rookie cards of Sandy Koufax and Nolan Ryan lead a parade of vintage singles. 1933 Goudey collectors will see over 50 cards up for bid including four of Babe Ruth.
The auction concludes on Wednesday, December 2.
MHCC’s next major auction is in January with several big-ticket items being prepared. To consign, call (303) 840-2784, visit www.milehighcardco.com, or see them at the upcoming Fanatics show in Chicago November 20-21 or the Philly show December 4-6.
