What’s considered the first ever game used/worn jersey, autographed & serial numbered Michael Jordan card ever made closed at $30,123 in an eBay auction Sunday night. The auction brought serious—and well financed—MJ collectors out of the woodwork for the 1997-98 Upper Deck Game Jerseys #GJ13A, limited to just 23 cards.
The ungraded card, constructed with rounded corners, features a two-color game used jersey swatch from Jordan’s appearance in an NBA All-Star game.
It was pulled from a pack at Dugan’s Sports Cards in 1998, according to the listing. Since then, the seller indicated he had only two other copies of the card offered for sale, with one of them selling twice.
Two years ago, it was ranked by Beckett as the second greatest Jordan card of all-time, behind his 1986-87 Fleer rookie card, but the ’97-98 Game Jersey card is far more scarce.
Bidding started at a penny back on November 17 but jumped to $14,000 before the day was over.
“This card has had a very peaceful life, as it has been just lounging around in a dark & quiet safety deposit box,” stated the listing.
