A 1996 Mercedes-Benz once owned by Michael Jordan will be on display at the National Sports Collectors Convention later this week and someone might wind up owning it for $23.
Live shopping platform Whatnot is bringing the S600 Lorinser will be part of a 1990s themed booth the company is putting together.
Collectors and fans can enter a “drop” through the Whatnot app on Wednesday, July 26 for the chance to purchase. Once selected, the winner will be able to complete the purchase for $23, which is, of course, MJ’s old number.
When the car phone is powered on (remember car phones?), Jordan’s last name appears on the dashboard.
The names of Jordan and his ex-wife Juanita are on the original title.
The car has been on the market before, most recently in 2020 when it was offered in an online auction.
Jordan’s old wheels aren’t the only items Whatnot is selling for $23 at the National.
The company is also hosting a drop for 1990s cards called Throwbacks. If selected in the random drawing, in-person attendees will have the chance to purchase higher valued sports cards and memorabilia from the 1980s,90s and 2000s for $23.
“We’ve always focused on creating a welcoming space for collector communities to connect over shared interests, and we wanted to replicate that experience at The National,” says Eric Shemtov, Head of Sports at Whatnot. “Our Throwbacks shop was created to take collectors back in time and offer the community access to products that are usually inaccessible. They’re in for a lot of surprises this weekend.”
Whanot entered the sports card arena in October of 2020. The company says nearly 2,000 of its sellers are now generating over $10k per month in sales, a figure that’s increased by 300% on average over the last year.
