Some honor former players who were having their numbers retired or careers remembered. Others commemorate franchise anniversaries, all-star games or Stanley Cup playoffs. Some were “one timers,” sewn on for a single evening and then left to the hockey history books.
Game-worn and game-issued NHL jerseys featuring some of the more interesting patches from a variety of different occasions are on the block in MeiGray’s inaugural “Patch Auction.”
Twenty-three different jerseys, most dating back several years or more, are up for bid.
Among them:
*A 2008 New York Islanders jersey worn by Rusian Fedetenko with a Core Of The Four patch, celebrating the 17 players who played for all four of the Islanders’ Stanley Cup Championships from 1980 through 1983.
*A 2011 Nick Palmieri New Jersey Devils jersey with the KR-AV Memorial Patch in memory of Karel Rachunek and Alexander Vasyunov, who were among those that lost their lives in the 2011 plane crash involving Lokomotiv Yaroslav in Russia.
*A 2011 Adam Henrique jersey from Scott Niedermayer Night. The Devils’ retired Niedermayer’s number before the game. The Hall of Fame defenseman was a member of each of the Devils’ 1995, 2000 and 2003 Stanley Cup Championships and also won the 2004 Norris Trophy as a Devil.

*A 2007 Tomas Kaberle Toronto Maple Leafs jersey with the annual Hall of Fame Game patch that also includes the alternate captain’s “A” patch.
