Game-used NBA items are already being auctioned by the company which already has deals in place to distribute memorabilia from teams and leagues across pro sports.
MeiGray Group has reached an agreement with the NBA to offer game-used equipment and uniforms from selected events.
The company’s available inventory, some of which will be available via auction and retail sale, will be from selected league events, according to the company’s website and a post on GameUsedUniverse.com.
MeiGray has tipped off it’s new partnership with an auction of game-worn uniforms and game-used basketballs from the 2006-07 Europe Live and Puerto Rico ’06 preseason games involving the Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns. Game-used basketballs from the 2007 NBA All-Star Game and related special events including the McDonalds NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, T-Mobile Rookie Challenge, PlayStation Skills Challenge, Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout, Sprite Slam Dunk have also been obtained by MeiGray and are being sold.
MeiGray already has team memorabilia deals in place with the Dallas Mavericks and Memphis Grizzlies.
Every game-worn and game-used item sold under the new partnership will be authenticated by an NBA or MeiGray Authentication Program representative. MeiGray uses a registry created to track and protect the authenticity of game-worn jerseys it acquires from the leagues and teams. Items offered by NBA and MeiGray will be authenticated and registered into the NBA Authenticated Program Database.
Obviously, the next step would be for MeiGray to attempt to expand its NBA relationship to include additional teams. "Hopefully next season we can do that," Meisel told SportsCollectorsDaily.com on Monday. "Like the NHL, teams can choose whether or not to opt in." Meisel said he is hoping the league agreement will allow the company to offer items use in this year’s NBA Finals. It’s existing relationship with the Mavericks would mean the company would be able to do that should Dallas reach the Finals again.
