High grade copies of Connor McDavid’s top rookie card, a mint Wayne Gretzky rookie and one of the top Michael Jordan insert cards from his legendary career are among the headliners in a new auction
The 2015-16 Upper Deck The Cup McDavid Rookie Patch Autograph is numbered to 99 and carries a BGS 9.5 grade. It leads the PWCC Marketplace Premier event, with bidding having stretched into six figures with a week left in the auction.
The Gretzky rookie is one of 93 to have been awarded a 9 grade by PSA and is expected to sell for over $100,000.
One of 90 1997 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems Red Michael Jordan cards is also part of the auction. Carrying an ‘Authentic/Altered’ designation, the PMG is one of Jordan’s top insert cards.
The other ten in the set carry a green background and rank among the hobby’s most expensive issues.
Other Jordan cards in the sale include a 1984-85 Star Company XRC graded BGS 8.5 and 1986-87 Fleer Jordan rookie (BGS 9.5) and a 1997 Finest Embossed Refractor #/74 graded PSA 10. There’s also a 2003-04 Topps Chrome Xfractor LeBron James rookie #/220 graded BGS 9.5.
Two key cards of three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes are among the 90 items in the auction. There’s a 2017 Panini National Treasures Red NFL Shield 1/1 RPA graded BGS 9 and a Panini Prizm Gold rookie auto (BGS 9.5).
The top vintage baseball cards in the catalog include a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #181 PSA 6, a 1948 Leaf Ruth graded SGC 8, a pair of 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle cards, graded SGC 4 and PSA 3 and a 1952 Berk Ross Mantle rated SGC 8.
An SGC 8 copy of the 1961-62 Fleer Wilt Chamberlain is also part of the sale.
