Show promoters who were hoping months ago that COVID-19 would drift away when the new year unfolded are facing more challenges in the months ahead. With many communities still seeing large numbers of cases and vaccines not expected to be widely available for the general population for months, more events that typically attract hundreds or thousands of guests may be on the chopping block.
Some organizers are already making decisions.
Mainline Autographs, which runs the three-day Pittsburgh show at the Monroeville Convention Center, has canceled its next event.
“The safety and welfare of our customers, dealers, employees, athletes and everyone involved in our show is our number one priority,” promoter Jim DiCandilo stated Wednesday. “With this in mind, we have postponed our May 2021 show. This was not an easy decision, but it was the correct one. Our Next Show will be September 17-19, 2021.
The show’s March 2020 event was among the first that had to shut down after the arrival of COVID recommendations.
