The Sun-Chronicle of Attleboro, Mass. reports that a 49-year-old man was sentenced Monday to 18 months in jail after pleading guilty to breaking into a shop in the area and stealing some valuable vintage baseball cards.
John A. Mann, 49, admitted that he broke a window pane to get into J & J Sports Cards during a snowstorm on Jan. 13. He left with unknown, but presumably lower grade Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb and Mickey Mantle cards worth around $2,000.
Police reports say he was out walking about 1:45 a.m. the next morning but he was not arrested at that time because the break-in wasn’t discovered until the business opened that morning.
Mann was arrested for shoplifting last Saturday at a department store in a nearby town on a shoplifting charge and the warrant issued by North Attleboro police.
During his arraignment in district court, he pleaded guilty to breaking and entering and larceny in connection with the sports card shop burglary.
The missing cards have not been recovered.
